7A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
1. The city of Las Vegas, Nevada is in need of an National Football League organization. There are a multitude of reasons and benefits as to why this expansion needs to happen, including, economic factors and the revenue that it will bring to the city.
2. The who: Citizens and city of Las Vegas.
The what: Welcome an expansion team or creation of an National Football League team.
The why: It will create job opportunities, automatic revenue, and bring more people to Vegas.
3. Testing the who: Are there other cities in the United States that inquire about this need? Does every state need an NFL organization? Utilizing the city of Las Vegas can help develop a plan moving forward for other cities that in the coming years want to replicate what Vegas is in the process of. Testing the what: Many cities try each year to be the next city to expand their sports franchises by bringing an NFL team. What aspects should we consider when expanding or establishing an NFL organization to a specific city? Why will Vegas succeed more than another city that has nothing? Testing the why: Why will doing this have an economic impact? What increases will occur if this were to happen in Vegas? Will there be a change in population if this establishment exists?
4. After going through a lengthy interview process, it was evident that this opportunity exists and is something citizens of the city of Las Vegas need and want. They believe that they are missing out on an opportunity that tons of cities in the US have and have had for many decades. It was a little difficult to understand the conflict and why it exists in the first place. It was difficult because since so many major cities in the US have an established football organization, why wouldn't a huge city such as Las Vegas have one already. It is something that has been a major debate for decades now and is something that is still talked about to this day. The city of Vegas never had a professional sports team up until a few years ago when the city established the brand, Vegas Golden Knights. It turned out to be a home-run and something that has boosted their revenue and created employment for citizens. Looking at the success of other cities with NFL teams such as New York, Boston, and Miami, only makes the case for Vegas to want to do the same. The overall agreement and consensus is that the citizens want Vegas to bring an NFL team so that besides the fact it brings entertainment, it also helps the economy and will make Vegas a city more people want to move to. Now, are there other cities pushing for the same that Vegas is? The answer is yes, people in the United States love the National Football League and believe that by bringing in an organization, it creates opportunities like no other. Not every state needs an NFL team simply due to the populations of those states and that the economic benefits would not extend as far as a city such as Vegas. The what issue is getting a team approved by the local officials of Vegas for this opportunity to fully exist. Vegas will succeed more than most other cities without teams due to their background and history as well as their destination being a tourist spot. From the interviews it was clear that they think the city of Vegas has room to grow and improvements to be made and that something of this caliber could motivate and better the city as a whole in a multitude of ways. Discussing the why portion of this argument was the most interesting because of the responses and explanations. We came up with reasons as to why they believe Vegas needs to bring in and NFL organizations and the benefits that it reaps if it were to happen. The results of this happening are the employment increases, the revenue that will bring to the city, as well as more citizens will settle in Vegas and live there knowing the city is multifaceted. The solution to this argument is that it needs to be brought to the attention of the local governors of the success the city has had with the Golden Knights and noting the success would blow through the roof if an NFL organization existed in Las Vegas.
5. Utilizing these interviews is very important and beneficial in many ways because it provides us with evidence and receiving feedback. From the beginning of this process through now, I have learned many different things regarding this opportunity and what it truly means to the city of Vegas and the effects it has. This issue has been ongoing for years now and is something that is debated today. This is clearly complex on different levels, but I believe this move is beneficial and something that is needed for this city as explained above. Not every city can accomplish this, that each state and city has a different economic situation and includes different factors.
