3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story

Up until now, I have had a moderate amount of experience within entrepreneurship. During middle school, I joined and competed in a club called DECA. This organization was a club for entrepreneurship students that wanted to build upon businesses or invent something. You presented your product or change within a company to judges and competed against other kids in the state of Florida and furthermore on a national level. This gave me the experience at a young age to write, speak, and use business skills on a more professional level. In my four years in deca, I made it to states three times and nationals once. Overall, I am forever grateful for these experiences and now have obtained more knowledge since then.

I enrolled in ENT3003 to gain a better understanding of entrepreneurship and to keep learning. By learning more from this course, I can apply it better in the workforce once I am finished with college. Another reason why I took this course was because of my requirements of graduating with a certain amount of business electives and this course sounds very interesting. Overall, I am excited to learn and see what this course bring in the future.

  1. Alex,

I see DECA has given you a great jump-start into entrepreneurship. The fact that you made it beyond your local club should already hint you that you can achieve great things if you try hard enough. As a (for now) former entrepreneur (and avid reader,) I can tell you what likely everybody will tell you about entrepreneurship: is hard, at times frustrating, and hardly predictable. However, if you succeed, even mildly, it can be tremendously satisfying and rewarding. My only advice is: rely on this class to give you insights and techniques, but do not relegate your ideas to anything other than yourself. Even Professor Pryor suggests you should not to sit on your ideas. Great job with your post!

  2. Hey Alex,
I was also in DECA at my high school! What a coincidence! It is awesome that you got experience in entrepreneurship in high school because I'm sure you learned valuable lessons to help you down the line. I enjoyed your reason for joining ENT3003 as well. I too took this course to gain valuable lessons and to then hopefully use them in the real world. Good job!
